The University of Calicut is an affiliating university in Kerala in India. Calicut University was established in 1968 and was administered by Dr. M.M Ghani in the 1970s. The University of Calicut into being in 1968 with the objective of developing human resources in the northern districts of Kerala with a motto of extending the reach of higher education and by promoting research in all areas of development with particular emphasis on technology and art and culture of Kerala.
University has 31 post graduate departments and 304 affiliated colleges have now become a veritable light house beckoning lakhs of young men and women to benefit from higher education.The University had especially strong faculty in Physics, Zoology, Chemistry, Botany, History, Malayalam, English and Physical Education. The University conducts courses and examinations for the students of the affiliated colleges. The main campus in Thenjipalam has departments in most of the science and humanities areas. The departments offer post graduate courses and research programmes. However, the main business in the campus is administration and conduct of examinations for all the affiliated colleges which number above 250.
